What documents are needed to start the process?

We understand that not all documents are available to you at the beginning of the process, but this is the list that will allow us to help you in the process,

so that you can finish it in the fastest and most efficient way.

Filling up this form

Id card or passport

Ketubah of your parents or other maternal relatives

Confirmation of Judaism from a court under the name of a maternal relative. This document is the one received upon completing this process.

A letter from a recognized Rabbi attesting to your Jewishness.

Authentic birth certificates for yourself and family members.

Marriage certificates of your parents, and relatives

Other certificates of marriage, divorce, death, adoption etc., membership in organizations, army etc.

Other documentation such as Red cross documents from WWII, and family pictures.

 

When is it recommended to start the Proof of Judaism process?

Although it is possible to start the process at any age, it is recommended to do it as early as possible and before opening a marriage file, because the process of gathering the information and forms can take time.

 

When are we required to present proof of Judaism?

Proof of Judaism can be done at any age. Anyone who wishes to have a Jewish wedding by the rabbinate is required to prove his Jewishness through official documents.

Why are we required to prove our Judaism of we are listed as Jewish on our tehudat zehut (identity card)?

According to the policy of the Ministry of the Interior, registration in the identity card does not constitute sufficient evidence, there are other ways of proof. We will be happy to help you locate the relevant documents.
